A woman tragically lost her life in a horrific car crash in Co Kilkenny yesterday evening. The two-vehicle collision, which took place on the N25 at Luffany in Slieverue around 5.50pm on Friday, January 3, saw emergency services and Gardai rush to the scene.

The female driver, aged in her 70s, sustained fatal injuries from the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has since been transported to the University Hospital Waterford mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

The other vehicle involved in the crash had a male driver in his 30s and a female passenger in her 20s, both of whom were taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The N25 road remains closed between the Luffany Roundabout and Glenmore Roundabout as Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a full technical examination.

Local diversions have been set up for motorists. Gardai are now appealing for witnesses, particularly those who may have been travelling on the N25 between the Luffany Roundabout, Slieverue and Glenmore between 5.30pm and 6.15pm, to come forward.

They are also urging anyone with dashcam footage from around the time of the collision to share it with authorities, reports the Irish Mirror.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana urged the public to come forward with any information, telling The Irish Mirror: "Anyone with any information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305 300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
