Emmerdale viewers are predicting a grim fate for Joe Tate after his kidney plot was exposed, but they suspect it won't be Caleb Miligan or brother Cain Dingle who will bring about his downfall.
Joe, as regular watchers of the ITV soap will recall, made a controversial return to the Dales last year, and it quickly became apparent that he was harbouring a significant secret.
It was only earlier this year that it came to light that Joe was in dire need of a kidney transplant. As his health worsened, he was prepared to go to any lengths to secure an organ. He concocted a wicked plan to take what wasn't rightfully his, drugging half-brother Noah Dingle and whisking him off to a private clinic to steal his kidney.
Upon discovering that his younger sibling wasn't a match, he released him before any surgery could occur. However, a drugged-up Noah ended up wandering into traffic, causing his mother Charity Dingle, who was driving a limo full of villagers, to swerve abruptly, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The car ended up in a frozen lake, leading to three shocking fatalities. Undeterred, Joe redoubled his efforts, with estranged uncle Caleb becoming his next target. He arranged for Caleb to be attacked and stabbed, before finding him and taking him to a private hospital where Dr Crowley carried out the transplant operation.
Emmerdale fans have been on tenterhooks as they've waited for Caleb to piece together the puzzle and realise that his nephew Joe was behind his stabbing and subsequent kidney transplant. The drama reached fever pitch during Thursday's (April 17) episode.
Caleb made a trip to the hospital where he underwent surgery, intending to speak with Dr Crowley. However, he was informed by the receptionist that there was no doctor by that name working there. His suspicions were further aroused when he ran into Dawn Fletcher, who is smitten with Joe. She told Caleb that Joe had slipped in the shower and sustained an injury.
After she showed him where the injury was, Caleb became increasingly suspicious of his nephew. Later, he visited Joe at Home Farm and while Joe was away taking a call, Caleb discovered Joe's medication. A quick online search revealed Joe's kidney transplant, leading to a heated confrontation.
After leaving Home Farm, Caleb went to Butler's and confided in Cain about his discovery, expressing his desire for Joe's death and seemingly seeking Cain's assistance in making it happen.
However, Emmerdale viewers are speculating whether someone else might be the one to end Joe's life. Billy Fletcher is being considered as a potential suspect for the yet-to-be-confirmed demise of the village villain after Dawn ended their marriage, omitting the fact that she's been having an affair with Joe and plans to start a new life with him.
One fan speculated: "Well Caleb didn't kill Joe Billy will #Emmerdale," while another chimed in with: "Billy will find out and kill Joe and Cain will get the blame, he always does."
However, @BSupport73 suggested: "Could Caleb,Cain and Billy please team up to Destroy to Joe? Yes please #Emmerdale."
Meanwhile, on Reddit, one fan posted: "The truth about what he did to Caleb is set to come out tomorrow which means the other stuff will likely follow suit and given how wide the Range of people that have been affected by his actions is?
"He'll have plenty people wanting payback Ross for having his brother attacked Charity for spiking Noah and also causing her to crash the car killing Amy Layla and Suzy.
"And of course any one of their loved ones would also be gunning for Joe and of course Caleb himself and possibly Ruby and Steph and maybe Cain. And when him and Dawn come out Billy could also be gunning for him so it seems like a whodunnit is kinda neatly being set up imo.
"Tho I don't think he'll be killed off tbh more likely just an attempt will be made and we'll get some aftermath antics."
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV at 7.30pm
