"Sausage roll out of the bag" as Derry city to get its first ever Greggs

Derry city is to get its first ever Greggs, it has been announced.

The British bakery chain, which has several locations across Northern Ireland, is set to open its first ever Derry store in Foyleside Shopping Centre.

The news was announced in a humorous social media post quoting an email exchange from a customer going by the name "Jimjam x", addressed to a "Mr Gregg".

A spokesperson for Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry city centre, writing on Facebook, said: "Well Derry! The sausage roll is out of the bag! Looks like we have ‘JIMJAM X’ to thank for making this happen for our city... "Derry’s FIRST EVER GREGGS is coming to FOYLESIDE. Get ready to welcome the iconic brand and finally get your hands on the sausage rolls, bakes, and pastries you’ve been dreaming of for years!"

Alongside the short announcement message, Foyleside shared an email exchange with "Team Greggs".

The exchange reads: "Hi Foyleside, We thought we would reach out, see comment below from a concerned customer. We need to discuss the opportunity of bringing Greggs to Foyleside!"

The email included the following message: "To Mr Greggs, hello pal, look, I've been meaning to send this message for a few years now, the long and short of it, why the actual fook does my town (Derry, Ireland) not have a Greggs??

We're all pastry lovers and I'm sure a store would prosper here, I've had enough of having to travel 2 hours for a sausage rolle, get it sorted Gregg... yours truly Jimjam x"
