The House GOP's two-week leadership crisis will continue after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) appeared to be well short of the votes to win the speakership on the first ballot Tuesday.
While the ongoing Tuesday floor vote has not yet closed, enough Republicans had already voted for someone other than Jordan, ensuring that he will not hit the 217 vote threshold needed to claim the gavel.
During the alphabetical roll call, 11 Republicans had already registered their opposition to Jordan by the time the 'K' surnames had voted. In the closely divided House, he could only afford to lose three GOP votes overall.
