Huge warning over Storm Éowyn issued to all homeowners with 90mph winds incoming

4 months ago 314

As Storm Éowyn gears up to unleash 90mph winds this weekend, thousands of homeowners across the UK have been put on high alert.

Red weather warnings are in place across the whole of Northern Ireland as the country prepares for Storm Éowyn tomorrow.

Met Office forecasters say flying debris could pose a risk to life, with large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and homes.

But there's another risk looming, according to Security Specialist at Ultion, Alex Dutton. He points out that the storm could provide perfect cover for burglars.

Alex explained: "When weather conditions make it hard for neighbours or passers-by to spot unusual activity, burglars are more likely to strike. A storm-damaged property, or a home left unattended during severe weather, sends a signal that the house may be less secure than usual."

He added that burglars often target areas with visible damage or homes that appear unoccupied for extended periods, knowing that any lapse in security might give them an opportunity.

Red weather warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland

To safeguard against break-ins, Alex recommends installing locks tested against extreme weather, regular lock maintenance, reinforcing windows and doors, and monitoring vacant properties.

Additionally, he cautions homeowners to be vigilant of fraudulent repair schemes post-storm, advising: "After a storm, criminals may pose as repairmen offering 'cheap fixes' for storm damage. Always verify the credentials of any contractor before agreeing to work or letting them near your property."

Belfast International Airport has announced that services could be affected and schools are also expected to shut.

Every school in Northern Ireland is expected to shut, along with Ulster University and Queen's University in Belfast. Lidl has also announced all stores will close on the island of Ireland.

Translink has also announced the cancellation of all buses and trains in Northern Ireland while the red alert is in place.
