WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – A mother is accused of leaving her toddler and baby in a running vehicle while she was inside a West Melbourne bar catching up with a friend, according to the police department.

Jamie Leigh Gunn, 33, was arrested Sunday after police noticed an SUV outside Penny Annie’s Bar on Minton Road with a 2-year-old and a 8-month-old asleep inside.

According to the West Melbourne Police Department, Gunn was inside the bar visiting with a friend for at least 20 minutes before officers arrived.

“When Gunn learned law enforcement was outside with her vehicle, she was more concerned about going to jail than the welfare of her children,” police wrote on Facebook.

Gunn was arrested on child neglect charges.

Police said the children were taken in by a family member and the Department of Children and Families was notified.
