Emmerdale fans were left in tears during Thursday's episode as Caleb Milligan appeared to meet a 'tragic end'. The latest instalment, available on ITV X, saw Joe Tate execute his evil plan to steal Caleb's kidney.
After an unsuccessful attempt to drug his half-brother, Noah Dingle, for the organ, he found they weren't a match. This led Joe to target another relative, his uncle Caleb, who was a suitable donor.
Joe and his personal doctor, Dr Crowley, devised a dark plot to extract one of Caleb's kidneys. However, when their initial plan went awry, a desperate Joe resorted to violence, instructing his accomplice, Shaun, to stab Caleb and take his car.
Following the stabbing, Joe arrived pretending to rescue the local businessman, taking him to a private surgery with Dr Crowley. The doctor was horrified by the situation, fearing he couldn't save Caleb due to the severity of the stab wound.
As the episode concluded, Dr Crowley informed Joe it was 'time to get ready' for the transplant. But before they could proceed, Caleb flatlined on the operating table, reports Leicestershire Live.
The episode ended with Dr Crowley and Joe standing over Caleb's lifeless body, leaving viewers 'sobbing'.
Fans flooded social media with speculation over Caleb's fate in Emmerdale after the shocking twist, with many questioning if the character had been 'killed off'. One viewer tweeted: "poor caleb didnt no he was leaving", while another posted: "Is Caleb dead? #Emmerdale", and yet another shared: "Have #Emmerdale really just killed him off?" with another adding to the flurry of reactions: "WTF HAS JUST HAPPENED? ? ? ? ? SOBBING AT 10AM WTF #Emmerdale."
Nonetheless, some sharp-eyed soap enthusiasts believe they've pieced together what's next for Caleb on the ITV drama.
There were tweets like: "I don't think he's leaving! X" and thoughtful predictions saying: "Tonight ends with him flatlining.. Joe and Doc stood looking at him.. could go either way as his kidney is ready for Joe.. Will doc save Caleb? I think as the stab wound was right by his kidney the doc could save him and say he had to remove kidney as it was badly damaged in the attack Joe could have his op and disappear and nobody would know x."
