GB News star Eamonn Holmes opened up about his first marriage during a Valentine's Day chat with co-host Ellie Costello, following his split from Ruth Langsford.
When Ellie asked if he remembered his first Valentine, Eamonn quickly replied: "I married her." His response left Ellie taken aback as she exclaimed: "Aww that's so nice."
Eamonn was referring to Gabrielle, who he married back in 1985 and shares three children with, Declan, Rebecca, and Niall.
However, their marriage ended after a decade. Eamonn later revealed the strain on their marriage due to spending most of the week away from home while working for GMTV in London, only returning to Belfast for weekends, reports the Express.
In his 2008 memoir, This Is My Life: The Autobiography, he wrote: "We tended to be apart during the week because of my job, and I had no trouble with that - though Gabrielle obviously did. I always believed absence would make the heart grow fonder and, in fact, the commuting heightened my desperation for her, made the time less bearable and longer."
However, he acknowledged that his frequent absences allowed Gabrielle to create a life with the children, making him feel like an intruder at weekends.
His father's death in 1991 led Eamonn into a period of deep grief. He found himself longing for a closer bond with his wife to help him through tough times, but their relationship had grown distant.
Eamonn wrote: "Gabrielle was increasingly indifferent and I didn't know why. I needed her close, I needed her to reach me and ease my pain, but she had concerns of her own, principal of which was an impending birth."
After they parted ways, Eamonn met Ruth Langsford through a GMTV colleague, and the connection was immediate. They were together for 14 years and welcomed their son, Jack, before tying the knot on 26 June 2010 at the stunning Elvetham Hall in Hampshire.
Their wedding was such a star-studded event that Hello! magazine featured it across two editions. However, following Eamonn's departure from ITV's This Morning in 2021, where he enjoyed a highly successful run co-hosting with Ruth, the couple began to drift apart.
Speaking to TalkTV at the time, Eamonn shared: "Although we live together, we're not really together... Ruth likes her own space [and] when we do This Morning it's a rare time we actually interrelate."
Despite this revelation, fans were taken aback when the couple announced their split in May last year, ending a 28-year relationship, with 14 years as husband and wife.
