6 months ago 302

An urgent recall has been issued for nine food products sold in Dunnes Stores.

Customers have been warned against ingesting several cheeses and products containing cheese due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled cheese products were made by or contain ingredients from Wicklow Farmhouse Cheese. They are sold by Dunnes Stores in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as several other retailers in the Republic including Spar and SuperValu.

They include Wicklow Smoked Cheddar, Wicklow Tomato & Herb Cheddar, Wicklow Nettle & Chive Cheddar, Wicklow Blue Brie, Irish Brie Cheese & Cranberry Quiche, Wicklow Ban in Ceramic Dish, Double Cream Wicklow Ban, Farmhouse Irish Cheese Selection and Neven Maguire Cheese Selection.

Both the Food Standards Agency and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland have advised customers not to eat the affected products.

A notice on the FSAI website states: "Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.

"Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days."
