Dramatic CCTV footage shows moment male grabs cash from till during east Belfast robbery

CCTV footage shows the dramatic moment a female shop worker is pushed and cash taken from a till in a shop in east Belfast.

The incident happened at the DayToday shop on Woodstock Road on Friday evening.

The female shop worker was not "physically injured" during the robbery, police say, but she has been left "shaken by the incident".

The shop owners shared CCTV footage in an appeal for members of the public who might recognise a male shown in the video wearing a red baseball cap. The shop owners also thanked the public for staying with the female worker until police arrived.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a robbery at retail premises in east Belfast on Friday, February 21."

Detective Sergeant Leeman said: "It was reported just after 7.30pm that a man entered the premises in the Woodstock Road area, pushed a female member of staff and took a quantity of cash from a till before fleeing on foot. Thankfully, the employee was not physically injured but she has been left shaken by the incident."

The Detective Sergeant continued: "The suspect was described as being aged in his mid 20s and wearing navy tracksuit bottoms, a black puffer jacket and a red peaked cap.

"Our enquiries are ongoing, and I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything, or who may have CCTV, dashcam or other video footage to contact us on 101, quoting reference 1548 of 21/2/25."

A police spokesperson added: "Alternatively, you can submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/"

The shop owners, in an appeal on social media on Friday night, said: "Unfortunately tonight our shop was robbed. CCTV and images of the a male wearing a red under Amour cap is attached. The police are currently at the shop and the shop will remain closed until tomorrow to keep the scene clean of other finger prints. If anyone know this male or seen anything around the shop area can you report it to us please. Big thank you to the people of the community for staying with our staff member until the police and ourselves got there."
