A school in Derry is closed today as a mark of respect for a "committed" teacher who sadly passed away on St Patrick's Day.
Jayne Kane, an Art and Design teacher at Foyle College, is described as a "dearly loved wife" and "devoted" mother-of-three in a family notice. She sadly passed away at the MacMillan Unit, Antrim Hospital.
The Derry school will remain closed today as a mark of respect as Mrs Kane is laid to rest following a funeral service at Dervock Presbyterian Church.

In a moving tribute, Foyle College said in a statement: "Mrs Jayne Kane joined Foyle College as a permanent member of staff in 2007 and quickly became an integral member of our Foyle College family, where she was admired and respected by staff and students alike. She was proud to teach in Foyle College, her mother’s alma mater, and hold the role of Head of Art and Design.
"Jayne was committed to getting the very best out of every Art and Design student and her creativity and passion for her subject inspired pupils, past and present. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jayne’s husband Richard, their three children Andrew, Sam and William, and her extended family and friends. Jayne will be very much missed within our College community, and we will continue to hold her in our thoughts and prayers."
A spokesperson for St Joseph's Boys' School, also in Derry, said: "Sincere condolences to Mrs Kane’s family, her colleagues and pupils at Foyle College from the governors, staff and pupils of St. St Joseph's Boys' School."
