Brits should make 'vital' passport check if travelling to popular destination

Holiday season is around the corner, and many are itching to escape to sunnier climates.

But, if Turkey is on your radar, there's a crucial detail to verify before jetting off. Travel blogger Kylie, who shares valuable insights online, has flagged a vital requirement for UK passport holders bound for Turkey.

There are specific entry rules to be aware of, and neglecting them could lead to complications. Kylie, aka englandandeverywhere on TikTok, is renowned for her practical travel advice, and her latest tip is a must-know for anyone heading abroad.

In a recent video, she breaks down the essential info. Basically, Turkey has distinct entry requirements for UK passport holders. To avoid any hiccups, it's crucial to understand these rules.

Kylie quotes the Government website, which states: "To enter Turkey, your passport must have an 'expiry date' at least 150 days after the date you arrive and at least 1 blank page. If you live in Turkey, your passport must be valid for 6 months from the date you arrive.

"If entering at a land border, make sure officials stamp and date your passport at the border crossing. Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. Renew your passport if you need to.

"You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen."

With 150 days working out to roughly five months, it's crucial for travellers to stay vigilant about their passport validity. Moreover, she warned holidaymakers that they could be turned away at borders if they cannot provide a blank page when requested.

The news seems to come as a surprise to some, with one individual posting: "Travelling May 31 for two weeks, my passport runs out in August. Why haven't the travel agents said anything?"

Another commented on their recent experience, writing: "We were in Turkey last week, and the wife only had 145 days left on her passport. Cost her £168 for a visa into Turkey."

Yet another traveller highlighted different requirements, suggesting: "A lot of countries want more, and no less, than six months left on your passport. Turkey and many more."

So, before you jet off, be sure to make essential passports checks. It's vital to do so before you travel.

In addition, there is updated travel advice for those worried about the ongoing protests in Turkey. The current unrest in the region, ignited by incidents in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has prompted significant demonstrations outside embassies linked to the conflict, especially Israeli diplomatic premises in Ankara and Istanbul.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued guidance for all UK tourists in Turkey, urging them to "avoid crowds and demonstrations", and advising travellers to "plan ahead" in order to minimise travel disruptions.

Moreover, it cautions: "FCDO advises against all travel to within 10km of the border with Syria due to fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism."
