Blown tire causes fatal crash in Cassia County

CASSIA COUNTY — A Friday morning crash severely injured a Rupert woman and killed her passenger, officials said in a news release.

At about 6:30 a.m., the 22-year-old was driving west in Interstate 84 in Cassia County when the Toyota Tundra she was driving blew a tire, according to officials. The vehicle went off the right shoulder of the interstate and rolled.

The driver was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. Her passenger, a 30-year-old male from Malta, died at the scene.

Neither of them occupants were not wearing their seatbelts, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
