U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military decoration, to five Korean War and two Vietnam War veterans, just weeks before he leaves office.

The Korean War recipients are Pvt. Bruno Orig, Pvt. 1st Class Wataru Nakamura, Cpl. Fred McGee, Pvt. 1st Class Charles Johnson and retired Gen. Richard Cavazos, all of whom served in defense of South Korea during the 1950-53 conflict. The five received the medal posthumously.

The Medal of Honor is awarded to members of the armed forces who distinguish themselves by gallantry and intrepid behavior at the risk of their own lives above and beyond the call of duty, according to the White House. (Yonhap)
