A former lawyer for Donald Trump and co-defendant in the sprawling racketeering case in Georgia struck a plea deal with prosecutors on Friday, just before his trial was set to begin.
Kenneth Chesebro, the alleged mastermind of an illegal “fake electors” plot to keep Trump in office, was initially charged with seven offenses, including violating Georgia’s RICO act, conspiracy to commit impersonating a public officer, and conspiracy to commit forgery.
He agreed to plead guilty to just one felony—conspiracy to file false documents.
