The Alliance Party's deputy leader Eóin Tennyson has confirmed that he is not set to appear in court next week.
A number of social media accounts have been speculating that Mr Tennyson was due to appear at Lisburn Magistrates Court on 10 January after a similarly named Eóin Roe Tennyson had been listed to appear on the public court list.
Belfast Live had been contacted by a number of individuals highlighting Mr Tennyson's apparent court date. Upon inspection of the charge sheets, it was evident that the date of birth of the defendant, who is facing charges of driving with excess speed and that of the Alliance Party deputy leader did not match.
The Upper Bann MLA took to social media on Thursday night to address the speculation and to inform anyone spreading misinformation about him that it would be considered defamatory.
"I have noticed some malicious speculation on social media regarding an individual with a similar name to mine due to appear in court in relation to a speeding offence," he said.
"I am not the individual in question, and any suggestion to the contrary will be considered defamatory."
