Train services on Wednesdays will operate according to the Sunday timetable following the government’s decision to declare Wednesday a public holiday as a measure to address the ongoing fuel shortage.
Deputy General Manager (Operations) of Sri Lanka Railways, N. J. Indipolage, stated today (17) that the new arrangement will apply to all upcoming Wednesdays.
Accordingly, many regular train services will not operate on Wednesdays until the decision to declare the day a public holiday is revoked.
He further noted that passenger numbers are expected to decrease as Wednesdays are now considered a government holiday.
