Sangyeon, the eldest member of K-pop boy band The Boyz, will be the first of the group to enlist in the military this March, his agency said Thursday.
One Hundred Label, the group's agency, confirmed that Sangyeon was accepted into the Army's military band after receiving final approval from the Military Manpower Administration.
The agency also stated that no special events will be held on the day of his enlistment, scheduled for March 17, to ensure safety as he enters the training center.
"This decision is made with consideration for the other recruits and their families, so we kindly ask for understanding," the agency stated, urging fans to refrain from visiting the site.
Under Korean law, all able-bodied Korean men over the age of 18 must serve as active-duty soldiers for 18 months.
Before his enlistment, the 28-year-old idol plans to create lasting memories with his fans. The agency expressed hope for continued support, stating, "Please do continue to show your love for Sangyeon as he fulfills his duties and returns healthier than before."
The Boyz, an 11-member boy band, has been active since 2017 with its debut album, "THE FIRST." The group gained special recognition in 2020 when they emerged as the winners of Mnet's survival series, "Road to Kingdom."
In December, the group transitioned from IST Entertainment to its current label. The band is currently gearing up for an upcoming fan concert, "THE B LAND," from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at the KSPO Dome in Seoul's Songpa District.
