St Patrick's Athletic boss Stephen Kenny believes Barry Baggley can hit new heights after completing the signing of the Fleetwood Town midfielder.

Belfast native Baggley spent the last two seasons on loan at Waterford and impressed in the Blues engine room.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international was in demand this close season and has signed a long-term deal with the Saints, who landed Romal Palmer on a permanent deal on Monday.

St Pat’s boss Kenny said: "I'm delighted that Barry has joined, he’s a really good footballer. He’s a left-footed playmaker who has a great understanding of the position and has the flexibility to play in different roles within midfield.

“He's had a good bit of experience for a player who is still an Under-21 international with Northern Ireland. Barry has the capacity to really improve, he has a strong personality having been captain of Waterford and will be an excellent addition.”

Baggley admitted the chance to work with ex-Republic of Ireland boss Kenny was a big factor in moving to the Inchicore club. And so was the Saints’ impressive finish to the season when they won their last nine games of the Premier Division campaign to fly up the table and finish third.

Baggley said: "I'm delighted to get things done and I'm really excited about the season - I think it's going to be a really good year as we've got a strong squad.

“I think the type of football that Stephen likes to play will suit me. St Pat's is a brilliant club to be at and things are going in the right direction.”
