High Demand Causes Difficulties in Fuel Pass QR Code Registration

Colombo – A large number of motorists across Sri Lanka have experienced difficulties registering for the National Fuel Pass QR Code system, as heavy demand led to congestion on the official registration website.

Following the government’s decision to reintroduce the Fuel QR Code system for fuel distribution, thousands of vehicle owners rushed to complete their online registration through the official portal. As a result, some users reported problems such as slow loading pages, temporary errors during registration, and delays in receiving verification messages.

Officials say the difficulties were mainly due to high traffic on the website, with many users attempting to register simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) Managing Director Mayura Neththikumara stated that technical teams are actively working to resolve the issues faced by some motorists during the registration process.

He said that technical teams are currently identifying and clearing the problems affecting registrations, adding that the issues are expected to be resolved within the day.

According to officials, some technical updates have already been implemented, and motorists who were previously unable to complete their registration are advised to try again now.

Motorists who continue to face difficulties are advised to retry the registration process later as website traffic decreases.

Registration Website Experiencing Heavy Traffic

Many vehicle owners across the country reported difficulties when attempting to access the National Fuel Pass online registration portal, with several users experiencing technical problems during the process.

Users attempting to access the system reported issues such as:

Website loading very slowly

Registration pages failing to open

Error messages appearing during submission

Difficulty receiving OTP verification codes

These issues are believed to be caused by a very high number of simultaneous users accessing the website at the same time.

Authorities Urge Public to Be Patient

Officials have advised the public not to panic if they are unable to register immediately, noting that the system may experience temporary slowdowns during periods of heavy demand.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to:

Try registering again after some time

Avoid refreshing the page repeatedly

Ensure correct vehicle details are entered during registration

As traffic stabilizes and technical adjustments are completed, access to the system is expected to improve.

Registration Required to Obtain Fuel

Under the National Fuel Pass program, every vehicle must be registered online to receive a QR code linked to a weekly fuel quota. Fuel stations will scan the QR code to verify eligibility before issuing petrol or diesel.

Therefore, vehicle owners who have not yet registered are advised to complete the process through the official portal when the system becomes available.

Use Only the Official Website

Authorities have also warned the public to avoid fake registration links circulating on social media, as scammers may attempt to collect personal or vehicle information through phishing websites.

The official registration website for the National Fuel Pass is:

https://fuelpass.gov.lk

Motorists are advised to enter their vehicle and personal details only through this official government portal.

Situation Expected to Improve

Officials expect that as demand for registration gradually decreases and further technical adjustments are made to the system, website performance will improve, allowing vehicle owners to complete their registration smoothly.

In the meantime, the public is advised to remain patient and avoid unofficial links while registering for the National Fuel Pass QR Code system, which enables fuel stations to scan a vehicle’s QR code and issue fuel according to a weekly quota assigned for each vehicle category, ensuring fair distribution and better management of fuel supplies across the country.
