Adrian Teer remembered as the Irish League unites to pay tribute to former Glenavon chairman

A number of former Glenavon players have led the tributes to the club's long-serving former chairman, Adrian Teer, who has sadly passed away.

The Lurgan Blues announced the news of Mr Teer's passing on New Year's Eve with the Irish League as a whole coming together to pass on its condolences to one of Northern Irish football's most respected administrators.

He served the club he loved as a director for 40 years spending 27 of those as chairman before stepping down from from an official capacity at Mourneview Park at the end of last season.

Sean Ward, who spent four years as a player with the Lurgan Blues, stepped down at the same time on the final game of last season and he paid a heartfelt tribute to Mr Teer. Ward posted on 'X': "RIP Mr Chairman. A lovely man who loved football and Glenavon Football Club. Rest easy. Thoughts and prayers with Adrian's family and friends."

Bobby Burns, who started his career at Glenavon, echoed those sentiments posting: "So sorry to hear this. Adrian was such a kind and genuine person who loved his football. He always made time to help others and provided great encouragement and guidance to all the younger players. May he rest in peace."

Former Northern Ireland international Michael O'Connor, who finished his playing career at Mourneview Park, posted: "RIP Chairman. A great man who always had time to chat about football. Gave everything he had to Glenavon Football Club."

Kris Lindsay, who played and coached the Lurgan Blues, posted: "Terribly sad news to hear of Adrian's passing. Was an absolute gentleman and worked tirelessly for Glenavon and football in NI in general. Always available for a chat and some advice. Thoughts and prayers."

The number of tributes from clubs and chairmen throughout the Irish League showed the high regard Mr Teer was held in.

In their own tribute to their former chairman Glenavon FC posted: "He provided inspired leadership within the Irish Football Association, the old Irish Football League and the Northern Ireland Football League. During almost 70 years supporting Glenavon he rarely missed a game. He gave his all in the service of the club he loved and the sport he adored."
