
According to reports, Baidu, a Chinese tech giant specializing in internet and Artificial Intelligence-related services, recently announced plans to launch a paid version of its ChatGPT-like bot Ernie. Similar to ChatGPT, the ernie bot is a Large Language Model(LLM) powered by generative artificial intelligence. It is one of the first of many Chinese AI-powered chatbots launched this year.
Following the launch, the Chinese search engine giant revealed that it plans to charge users a fee of 59.9 yuan ($8.18) a month as of November 1, 2023.
Baidu Embarks on Advancing AI Development
Earlier this year, Baidu announced plans to launch a new and upgraded version of its ChatGPT model rival, Ernie 4.0. According to the CEO of Baidu, Robin Li, the decision to launch a new and upgraded version of the LLM encompassed key aspects that may offer aid in fostering a new round of economic growth. The decision to launch another upgraded version that mandates users to pay for services provided by the bot comes in alignment with Li’s recent vision to foster a new round of economic growth.
The initial launch of Baidu’s LLM chat bot Ernie in August 2023 created quite a buzz in the crypto realm as Ernie became one of the most downloaded apps on Apple’s IOS store in China. With its recent advancements, Baidu is gradually emerging as an internet service company specializing in endowing AI-related services.
