You have to see this! Herd of bison surround car in Yellowstone National Park

A SIGHT TO SEE — Running into a herd of bison on the road might be nerve-racking for some people, but one woman sounded ecstatic when countless buffalo surrounded her vehicle while she was on a recent drive.

Cindy Shaffer is the woman who recorded the encounter that’s since gone viral. The video was taken in Yellowstone National Park on Jan. 10, 2025.

“This is the stuff I dream of in Yellowstone. I just turn the corner and look what I got. Huge bison jam coming right at me. Huge,” Shaffer is heard saying in the video. “Oh, I love this.”

Footage shows many bison walking on the snowy road towards Shaffer’s vehicle. As the animals get closer to Shaffer, they walk around her vehicle, leaving Shaffer in amazement.

“Frosty faces,” she says as a few of the bison walk past her with snow on their faces. “Oh my God. Look at them all. This is too cool.”

In the video Shaffer estimates there are “hundreds” of bison near her.

“You can’t see my smile right now but it’s, holy, ear to ear,” Shaffer stated. “I just love this.”

One of the video’s comments reads, “A wonderful treat not many people get the chance to see!”

Another comment states, “Encountering a herd of bison in the icy, snowy world of Yellowstone National Park is so cool! Nature always manages to surprise me. This is exactly what travel is all about. I love these unexpected and awe-inspiring moments!”
