Woman knocked unconscious by man and car pushed into business on same NI street

A woman was knocked unconscious by a man following a verbal assault in Banbridge during the early hours of Sunday, shortly before an "unoccupied" car was pushed into a store front on the same street.

The PSNI launched two, separate appeals for information following the incidents on Newry Street in the Co Down town.

The woman was assaulted between around 12:30am and 12:45am, police said in a statement. Meanwhile, a car was pushed into the store front of a business premises at around 2.30am, causing what police described as "extensive damage".

In a PSNI statement on the woman being knocked unconscious, a police spokesperson said: "Police in Banbridge are appealing for witnesses following a reported assault in the Newry Street area in the early hours of Sunday, 30th March.

Sergeant Nelson said: “It was reported that a woman aged in her 30s was knocked unconscious following a verbal altercation with a man described as being aged in his 20s, wearing dark clothing, tall and with a mullet hairstyle. A second woman who attempted to intervene was also punched to the face but thankfully has not reported any serious injuries at this time.

“The assault occurred between approximately 12:30am and 12:45am and we would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or has dash cam or any other video footage relevant to the investigation, to call police on 101, quoting reference number 326 of 30/03/25.”

And in a separate appeal, a police spokesperson said: "Police have received a report of criminal damage to business premises on Newry Street in Banbridge, which took place at around 2.30am on Sunday, March 30."

PSNI Sergeant Neill said: “Extensive damage was caused after a car which was unoccupied was pushed into the store front. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

“We know the area was busy at the time and would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call police on 101, quoting reference number 121 30/03/25. Alternatively, you can report online at www.police.psni.uk/makeareport .”
