Berkeley police are investigating a stabbing in Southwest Berkeley that left one woman dead and two men hospitalized Saturday afternoon.
Officers first went to the 1300 block of Russell Street, near San Pablo Park, around 12:22 p.m. to investigate a report of auto theft, Berkeley police spokesperson Officer Jessica Perry said in an email.
“As officers were responding to the location, our communication center began receiving more calls from witnesses stating that several people were lying on the ground and bleeding,” Perry wrote.
When officers arrived they found the three victims with stab wounds, and all three were taken to a hospital. The men were in stable condition but the woman “succumbed to her injuries,” Perry wrote.
“This is preliminary information as this is an active and ongoing homicide investigation,” Perry wrote. “Further details will be provided once available.”
The intersection of Russell and Acton streets was cordoned off with police tape Saturday afternoon, with shoes and bloodied clothes in the middle of the street.
