A woman died onboard a ferry in Wexford today as armed gardaí attended the scene of what is being described as a violent incident.

The body of a woman was found on the Stena Nordica which docked at Rosslare Europort at around 5.30pm. It is understood that a violent row took place on the vessel from Fishguard, Wales.

Armed gardai and the public order unit rushed to the scene after the ferry captain alerted authorities.

Tonight, gardaí confirmed that a crime scene had been declared.

A spokesperson added: “While Gardaí conduct enquiries onboard, there are no public safety issues at this time.”

Today's 7.30pm sailing from Rosslare and tomorrow morning's 1.30am from Fishguard were cancelled due to the incident.

A spokesperson for Stena Line said: “Stena Line can confirm that an incident occurred this afternoon on the 14:00 sailing from Fishguard to Rosslare. This is now a police matter, so please direct all further questions to the Gardaí.”
