Westlife star Nicky Byrne opens on major setback when booked to perform at Wayne Rooney's wedding

Westlife star Nicky Byrne has opened up about the hiccup they encountered when they were booked to perform at Wayne Rooney's wedding in 2008.

Rooney and partner Coleen tied the knot in a lavish, no-expense-spared ceremony 17 years ago, with Westlife and Stereophonics among those performing in Italy.

Although Westlife had played hundreds of shows, they hit a snag when the Rooneys requested a song they had never performed.

Coleen appeared on Nicky Byrne HQ, where the Westlife star opened up on the whole experience, the Irish Mirror reports.

"I remember we got asked to sing a song called I Do, which I think was your first dance, and that was a song we had recorded the year before that on an album that was out called Back Home. When you record a song for an album you don't get to perform them unless they're singles. When you recorded them a year ago, you might never sing them again, ever!

"So you forget words of it and so on. We got booked, and we were told the first song was I Do, and we all looked at each other and thought, 'Oh s***'.

"That's not just knocking out Swear It Again or Flying Without Wings; this is like 'oh no.' We had to learn it again to make sure we got all the harmonies right. Usually, things like that wouldn't be nerve-racking, but then you're thinking, we've never sung this song live."

Coleen was in Ireland to promote her new Applied Nutrition health and wellness range and even toasted for a pint with Nicky in his recording studio meets backyard bar.

The Westlife star launched his podcast last October, with Brian McFadden as the first guest. Since then, the show has featured a host of top names, such as Gary Barlow, Paul McGrath, and Michael Flatley.
