A West Belfast man has appeared in court where he denied wounding another man two years ago.
Thomas Thornton appeared in the dock of Belfast Crown Court on Tuesday February 11 where two charges were put to him. From Ballymurphy Road, the 19-year old was charged that on February 27, 2023 he unlawfully and maliciously wounded a man with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
When asked how he pleaded, Thornton replied "not guilty." He was then charged that on the same date, he fought and made an affray at Springhill Drive in Belfast.
Thornton denied the second charge levelled against him. Following the arraignment, a solicitor for Thornton said a defence statement has been lodged to the court and that the defence is awaiting a forensic report.
Judge Sandra Crawford said: "Given the issues that we are all aware of in terms of the listing of trials at the present time, I am reluctant to allocate any date in relation to this matter." She re-listed the case for review on Friday March 7.
Thornton's solicitor asked that his client be released on continuing bail and after no objections were raised by the Crown, Judge Crawford agreed to the defence request and said "bail continues on the current terms."
