A 33-year old man facing charges including robbing a Eurospar was released on bail today (Monday) - but banned from entering the scene of the alleged crime.

John McMenemy made the successful appliation to be released from HMP Magilligan at Belfast Crown Court. He’s facing six charges dating back to February 19 last year.

The alleged offences include robbing an employee of Eurospar on the Springfield Road of nine tins of Loco valued at £16.20, possessing a bread knife with intent to commit robbery and assaulting police.

His barrister Danielle McMahon told Judge Sandra Crawford that McMenemy’s release on bail was not being opposed by the Crown or the PSNI.

After Crown barrister Emma McIlveen confirmed this was the position, Judge Crawford agreed to the application. The Judge imposed several bail conditions which include McMenemy being released to an address approved by police.

He was banned from consuming alcohol and illegal drugs and will be subject to a 10pm to 7am curfew and electronic tagging.

Judge Crawford added McMenemy “is excluded from the Eurospar on the Springfield Road in Belfast and its immediate vicinity”.

The case was re-listed for a review on April 30.
