A young woman is fighting for life after she was doused with petrol and set alight in the front yard of a Melbourne home following a dispute. 

The woman, aged in her 30s, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after receiving serious burns at about 2am on Wednesday morning. 

She was airlifted from a property on Rivercoast Road in Werribee South, about 32km southwest from the CBD, and taken to a hospital in Melbourne. 

A man at the scene who identified himself as the woman's brother said she had gotten into an argument with a man and another woman.

He said she had been trying to diffuse the situation when she was doused with petrol and set alight, Wyndham TV reports. 

Two other people received minor injuries during the incident. 

A man and a woman are assisting police with their enquiries as a crime scene is established and detectives probe the property. 

Investigators believe the incident occurred following a dispute.
