We compare prices at Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys to see who offers best value for money

Across Northern Ireland, households continue to feel the impact of the high cost of living, as prices in the shops seem to never stop increasing.

Some items are now double the price that they were a few years ago, and it is sometimes hard to believe that you are paying such high amounts for your weekly shopping.

The Consumer Council's most recent survey found 93% of respondents were concerned about the price of food in the shops, and that 42% had reduced spending on food and essentials in order to afford to pay their bills and keep a roof over their heads every month.

The survey also found that 86% of respondents said increased food prices were one of the main reasons that they were struggling with the cost of living.

Belfast Live looked at the price of some everyday essentials in Sainsbury's, Tesco and Asda to see how they compare today, with two of the supermarkets having higher prices than they did nine months ago in May, 2024, however one of them, Asda, actually had reduced its overall costs, although this was primarily due to Rollback reductions.
