A Northern Ireland mum was left red-faced after the Tesco food shop she failed to cancel turned up with just one £1.75 item.
Denise McCullough from Co Down tried to stop her home delivery, but due to a low internet connection and then a power cut, it hadn’t gone through.
The 38-year-old was then stunned when the driver turned up with just a bottle of Askeys Treat strawberry sauce in the crate. The funny moment was captured on her Ring doorbell. Denise opened the front door and said: “I thought we’d cancelled the order.”
The man replied: “Did you?” Confused, she added: “What came?” The driver holding the near-empty crate said: “Just this.” He held up the sauce.
Denise said: “Oh my God, I’m so sorry. We didn’t have electricity and internet for a whole day.”
She told What’s The Jam: “We had ordered before the storm and didn’t get to finish the order. The electricity was gone and we had limited phone service, so if he attempted to call, he couldn’t get through.
“It cost nothing as the driver kindly cancelled it for us. The order was one item of strawberry sauce.
“I was up in bed to start with, so I chatted to him through the doorbell and I couldn’t help but laugh.”
Denise from Downpatrick added: “Our daughter was over the moon because she hadn’t seen him in a while.
“Usually, my husband unloads the shopping while we have a chat with him.
“She now tells everyone he’s her best friend.”
Tesco has been approached for comment.
