A NI woman's wholesome video has gone viral as she surprised her dad by coming home from Canada for a visit.
Megan Taylor from Carrickfergus flew home for a surprise visit for Mother's Day, and managed to capture her dad Douglas's shock on video.
The 69-year-old was "stunned" as he spotted his daughter in the back garden of his home. Megan's video has now received over 6.4million people on TikTok.
The 36-year-old moved to Toronto in May 2015. She said: "While I live 3,500 miles away, I do come home quite often. Whether that’s for special occasions, or the festive season – or even a long weekend here or there off the back of a media/work trip, I’m regularly home. That said, when I do come to town, my dad ALWAYS knows, as he’s the one who usually picks me up in Dublin.
"We actually joke and call my dad the Airporteer because whether it’s me, my brother or a distant friend of a friend, my dad will always volunteer to pick them up at the airport.
"On this occasion, I wasn’t scheduled to come home until the end of the summer when we’ll be celebrating his 70th birthday. However, we unfortunately lost my grandmother at Christmas time just past, and with it being the first Mother’s Day on March 30th in Ireland and the UK and what would have been my nana’s birthday on April 6th, plus a close friend’s 40th – I figured it would be a prime time to visit everyone.
"I only told one friend so they organised an airport pickup – this time in Belfast, as I didn’t want anyone else to have to do the 5AM arrival! So after flying Toronto to London and onwards to Belfast, the surprise was on."
And for the big reveal, Megan added: "I drove home to my house in Carrickfergus, but classically no one was in. My pal and I passed time under the radar before returning home for the big reveal... of course, they still weren’t home. At this time, I crouched down under the window in the back garden behind my suitcases and waited for their arrival.
"I knew when they returned they’d let the dog out straight away via the back door, near where I was hiding – so I just had to bide my time. However, what I didn’t expect was my dad to follow the dog out with the weekly recycling (which has the comments section in uproar!). From there... he just was too stunned to move.
"My dad was very animated! I didn’t expect him to be so stunned. I’m back relatively regularly, but like I say, he’s always in the know. I don’t know if he was more stunned that someone else picked me up at the airport, or that I was physically in his back garden."
The Carrickfergus woman said although living in Canada is "so much fun and full of opportunities", "home is where the heart is".
She continued: "When I am away, much of my heart is in Ireland with my mum and dad. The comments section of TikTok can rest assured, I did in fact give him a big hug after the shock and he did move from that spot!"
