FORT HALL – An Idaho Falls man escaped injury after his vehicle caught fire Sunday night.

It happened just before 6 p.m. at milepost 85 on Interstate 15 north of Fort Hall, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.

Authorities say an unidentified 21-year-old man from Idaho Falls was headed south in a 1997 Chevrolet GMT-400. It caught fire, though it’s not clear why, and he pulled over at milepost 85 before the flames erupted.

The Fort Hall Fire Department arrived on scene and put out the blaze. ISP does not specify how long it took.

While the man avoided injury, the southbound lane of traffic was backed up for about two hours.

Fort Hall Police Department assisted ISP in the response. ISP are still investigating.
