Umatilla man dies after crash with tree in Lake County, FHP says

Crash occurred along County Road 439, south of Dairy Road

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – A 27-year-old Umatilla man died Saturday after the car he was driving crashed into a tree in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 5:12 a.m. along County Road 439, south of Dairy Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was traveling northbound in a 2016 Nissan Versa that he lost control of for an unknown reason. The Nissan ran off the roadway to the left before striking the tree, the report states.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, FHP said. Troopers believe he was not wearing a seat belt in the wreck.

FHP is still investigating the crash.
