Two vehicle collision "escalated" to assault in Newry, say police

A two-vehicle, lunchtime road collision is believed to have "escalated into an assault" in Newry, police say.

An appeal for witnesses to either the collision or an assault or altercation between the drivers was launched by the PSNI in the Newry, Mourne and Down policing district this weekend.

The collision happened in "the vicinty of Warrenpoint Road, Newry, just off the Greenbank roundabout" on Wednesday at around 1.45pm, a police spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for Police in Newry, Mourne and Down said: "Police are investigating a two vehicle Road Traffic Collision which occurred in the vicinity of Warrenpoint Road, Newry, just off the Greenbank roundabout on Wednesday 19th February 2025 at approximately 1345 hours.

"This collision is believed to have escalated into an assault. If anyone witnessed the collision or any assault or altercation between the drivers, please contact Ardmore Local Policing Team through 101 quoting Police Reference 872 of 19/02/25."
