Two funerals for women who died in separate collisions on same day in NI

A road crash victim described as a "beautiful girl in every way" will be laid to rest following a funeral service on Tuesday.

Annemarie (Annie) McWilliams, from Kilrea in Co Derry, sadly died following a two-vehicle collision on the Windyhill Road near Coleraine on Thursday afternoon. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday.

This comes after another woman who died following a collision elsewhere in Northern Ireland on the same day, mother-of-seven Leanne Thomas, was laid to rest following a funeral service in Dungannon on Sunday afternoon.

A funeral service was held at Dunagnnon Independent Methodist Church for Mrs Thomas, who died following a two-vehicle collision close to the Old Loughrey Road shortly before 5pm in Co Tyrone on Thursday.

In a family notice, she was described as "beloved daughter of Elizabeth and loving mother of Rachel, Reece, Megan, Callum, Caitlin, Ryan and Riley, dear sister of Wayne, Stephen, Clinton and Louise, a dear sister-in-law, Auntie and Niece".

Leanne Thomas

Mrs Thomas sadly died following a collision involving a Ford Ka and a Nissan Note on the main Dungannon-Cookstown road. She was a passenegr in the Ka and sadly passed away at the scene, while the male drivers of both vehicles and a young child who was travelling in the Nissan were taken to hospital with what the PSNI described as "serious injuries".

Annie McWilliams, meanwhile, died following a following a collision involving a Seat Ibiza and a Toyota Hilux, occurred on the Windyhill Road, Macosquin, at around 3.10pm. She was the driver in the Seat and sadly died at the scene.

She was described in a family notice as "loving daughter of Philip (Phelim) McWilliams and the late Martina (née McNally); beloved niece of Kevin and Jacqui and much adored cousin of Christopher and Erin."

Her funeral will take place in St Mary’s Church, Drumagarner at 11am on Tuesday.
