Twenty-five Arizona elementary school students started vomiting and falling ill after eating at a local bowling alley during a field trip on Tuesday.

Zuni Hills Elementary School officials said 25 sixth-graders reported being sick after returning to their Peoria campus following a visit to Uptown Alley, a bowling alley in nearby Surprise, Arizona Central reports.

The Peoria Unified School District said in a statement that while it remains unclear at this time what caused the students to vomit, medical professionals believed 'food poisoning' was the culprit.

The incident caused dozens of firefighters and first responders to flood the school as they closed off areas and helped treat the sick students.

Although no students were reported to be in critical condition, one was taken to the hospital at the request of the parents.

Several firefighters and first responders arrived at the scene to help treat students. The sixth graders were all reported to be well, with only taken to the hospital at the parents' request

According to the district, Zuni Hills administrators received reports that multiple sixth graders were vomiting after eating at Uptown Alley, where a total of 96 students went on a field trip.

'To help triage the number of students who reported feeling ill, the school called 911 for support, which resulted in numerous fire trucks and medical personnel responding to the campus.'

Stephen Brindley, of Peoria, said on social media that his daughter was on the field trip and told him the students ate pizza at the bowling alley.

A manager at Uptown Alley said the business is fully cooperating with the school and local authorities investigating the incident.

Along with bowling, Uptown Alley serves as a venue for laser tag, arcades and the Red Embers Bar & Grill restaurant.

Peoria firefighters said medical personnel assessed that all students were safe to be dismissed with their peers.

The fire department did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com's request for additional information regarding the incident.

The location is home to bowling alleys, laser tag space and an arcade

The scene of first responders crowding the school is reminiscent of a case last week where fire trucks and ambulances descended on a Los Angeles middle school after ten students suffered a cannabis overdose

First responders received a call about possible overdoses at Van Nuys Middle School last Thursday, and at least seven of the students were taken to a hospital.

Erick Scott, the department's Public Information Officer, said the overdoses likely involved edible cannabis products.

The affected students were between the ages of 13 and 14 and had suffered only 'mild' symptoms.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unlike smoking marihuana, ingesting too many cannabis-based edibles can lead to poisoning and serious injury.

The LA Fire Department said it got a call about multiple students with medical complaints, which stemmed from cannabis-based edibles
