U.S. President Donald Trump sent a message Monday to U.S. farmers that tariffs on "external products" will begin early next month, signaling the introduction of new duties on agricultural imports.
Trump said the new tariffs will "go" on April 2, as he has made a series of announcements on tariffs as part of his drive to pare down America's trade deficits, bolster domestic manufacturing and address other issues, including the flow of undocumented migrants and illicit drugs.

"To the Great Farmers of the United States: Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States," he wrote on Truth Social. "Tariffs will go on external product on April 2nd. Have fun!"
Trump has announced plans to start imposing 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports on March 12, while moving to roll out "reciprocal" tariffs and weighing new tariffs on cars, semiconductors and pharmaceuticals among other items. (Yonhap)
