Tributes paid following sudden death of 'caring' young Irish woman in New York

Tributes have been paid following the sudden death of a 'gentle, kind and caring' young Irish woman in New York.

Jenna Shovlin, 31, originally from Portnoo in Co Donegal, passed away in Manhattan on Saturday (March 8).

Jenna had been living in New York for a number of years, where she was working for Warner Bros. film studio, having served as a production assistant on a number of high-profile features, including the Oscar-nominated Netflix film tick, tick... BOOM!, the blockbuster sequel Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and the upcoming drama The Bride starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley.

Tributes have flooded in for the popular 31-year-old Donegal native, with Ardara-based GAA club Clg Ard An Ratha announcing the tragic news in a Facebook post.

The club said Jenna's smile "lit up every room she went into" and that her tragic death has 'has left a black cloud over our Parish'.

"Devastating news arrived in the Parish again last night, with the news of the sudden death of Jenna Shovlin of The Rock, Narin," the club said.

"Jenna was a beautiful girl who had made a new life for herself in New York, and was a person who made a lasting impression on whoever she met, with a smile that lit up every room she went into. The news of her passing has left a black cloud over our Parish once more."

"We offer our deepest condolences to Frankie, Kathleen, Christopher, Keith and to the extended Shovlin and Furey families on Jenna's death."

Jenna's sudden death has sent shockwaves through communities in both Donegal and New York, with friends and neighbours paying heartbreaking tributes online.

"Kathleen, Frankie, Keith and Christopher, I was deeply saddened to hear about Jenna's passing. She was such a vibrant spirit, always up for a laugh, and truly the life of any gathering. Her professionalism and incredible work ethic were unmatched, and she was a pillar for all of us-especially as the backbone of the Irish crew in Canada," one person said. "It was an absolute honour to know her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Please know that my thoughts are with you all during this difficult time."

Another mourner added: "My deepest condolences to your family on the tragic passing of beautiful Jenna. She was a gentle, kind, caring person who touched the lives of many people here in New York. She was someone you could truly call a great friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers."

A close pal said: "Kathleen and Frankie Keith and Christopher. There are no words. We are truly heartbroken to hear that Jenna has passed away. Such a beautiful girl inside and out. May God give you the strength at this difficult time. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and all the Shovlin and Furey families."

While a fourth person wrote: "Sincere condolences to Kathleen, Frankie, Christopher, Keith, Lilly, Jodie, all the extended family and Jenna's cousins and friends. Thinking on you all at this devastating time. A beautiful girl taken way too soon. There are no words."

A notice shared on RIP.ie states that "Jenna will be sadly missed by her heartbroken parents, Frankie and Kathleen, brothers Christopher (Tanya), Keith (Hannah), nieces Lilly and Jodie, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, extended family, friends and neighbours".

Funeral arrangements have not yet been confirmed but a there was a special celebration held in Jenna's honour in St Conal's Church in Kilclooney on Sunday evening.
