A trial date has been set for a West Belfast man who has been accused of historic rape offences.

The man, who cannot be named due to a court order, appeared at Laganside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 8, where he entered a not guilty plea to both offences that he has been charged with.

The man faces one count of rape and another of indecent assault against a female on date between December 31, 2001 and July 28, 2003.

He cannot currently be named due to a court order granting him anonymity due to fears for the defendants safety. His representation told the court that he has faced a number of threats.

The order was due to expire at his court appearance today, but was extended for one week while the defendant makes another anonymity application that will be decided by the judge on Tuesday, April 15.

Following the not guilty pleas from the defendant a trial date was set for later this year on June 23. It is expected to last four days.
