LAKE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were killed on Monday evening after a rollover crash in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a release, troopers said that the crash happened around 7:52 p.m. at Goose Prairie Road near Felkins Road in Leesburg.

According to the FHP, a Jeep heading east along Goose Prairie Road got into the westbound lane to pass a pickup truck that was ahead of it.

However, the Jeep got back into the eastbound lane as another vehicle approached in the westbound lane, causing the back of the Jeep to strike the front of the truck, troopers said.

The release shows that the Jeep then “traveled off the roadway” onto the eastbound grass shoulder, but the driver overcorrected and ended up driving across both lanes onto the westbound grass shoulder.

Troopers said the Jeep then turned over several times before crashing into a wire fence.

Both the driver and passenger in the Jeep — unidentified men — died at the scene, according to the FHP. The truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene.

As a result of the crash, a roadblock is up for both directions on Goose Prairie Road, investigators said.

No additional information has been provided at this time.
