A likely tornado ripped through Palm Beach Gardens late Saturday afternoon, according to forecasters the National Weather Service.
At 5:13 p.m., the National Weather Service tweeted a tornado warning for North Palm Beach to Juno Beach.
Minutes later, sometime between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m., a tornado appeared to touch down in the Palm Beach Gardens area, according to Luke Culver, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Miami.
“I can’t say one-hundred percent it touched down, but like ninety-nine percent sure,” Culver said. “Especially with the radar signal it was displaying.”
One video shared on social media depicts a golf course with a tornado passing through in the distance. Other pictures show flipped cars and mangled trees.
It’s difficult to say how strong the tornado was. Someone from the weather service was on their way to assess, Culver said.
More tornadoes are likely not in store for Saturday night, but they will pose a threat to all of the whole South Florida region Sunday, along with severe thunderstorms.
“All hazards would be possible,” Culver said.
