Two men have been arrested after a six-hour standoff with heavily armed police where gunfire was exchanged.
Queensland Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, shortly before midday on Wednesday after two men allegedly holed themselves inside a home with a firearm.
Officers arrived to search the Newtown property on Park Street at about 10.45am AEST.
It is not yet known why police were sent to search the home.
Police began negotiating with two men they believed to be in possession of a firearm upon entering the property.

Officers evacuated a number of terrified residents from Park Street as the tense situation played out.
All roads heading into the emergency zone were closed with more than half a dozen marked and unmarked police cars spotted around the area.
Police said five people were 'safely removed' from the sieged home throughout the operation.
It is understood police and one of the men exchanged about six shots in the late afternoon.
One unconcerned neighbour said emergency services are a normal presence in the street.

'I'm not that concerned now. I was shocked because I didn't know what was happening,' she told Toowoomba Chronicle.
'It's a good street because if you ever need an ambulance you put your hand out and wave because there is always one running down the street.
'If you ever need a police officer you put your hand out because there is always one running down the street.'
A witness said Special Emergency Response Team officers stationed themselves in front of the home early Wednesday night.
They were reportedly armed with rifles.
Two men were arrested from the home at about 5.40pm with photos showing them being guided into the back of a police car.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted Queensland Police for comment.

It comes as Queensland Police hold the funeral for officers Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold who were fatally shot some 185km northwest of Toowoomba in Wieambilla.
McCrow and Arnold were two of four officers sent to search the property for missing man Nathaniel Train.
However, Train, his brother and his brother's wife Stacey shot at officers as they came towards the property's home.
It is understood the trio had thoroughly planned the attack and were active on anti-authority conspiracy theory websites.
The two deceased officers were farewelled at a public funeral on Wednesday.
