Tony's Chocolonely has urgently called for a recall of their giant Easter eggs amid concerns they may contain metal fragments.
The Dutch chocolate company, known for its commitment to ethical sourcing, is advising customers to check any Large Hollow Easter Egg 242g in the Milk Chocolate and Caramel Sea Salt flavours that they've purchased. The products in question have a best before date of June 2025 and specific lot codes.
A warning from the Food Standards Agency states that the affected Easter eggs "may contain pieces of metal" rendering them "unsafe to eat". This comes on the heels of another recall earlier this week involving several Tony's Chocolonely chocolate bars, such as the Dark Almond Sea Salt chocolate bar and Everything Bar, due to similar concerns about small metal pieces.

The Food Standards Agency has issued a warning to anyone who has purchased any of the aforementioned products, advising them not to consume them. Instead, they should be returned to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. If you have bought these directly from Tony's Chocolonely, you can contact them via their UK website.
Tony's Chocolonely released a statement on its website today: "Tony's Chocolonely is recalling certain batches of its Large Hollow Easter Egg 242g product in both Milk Chocolate and Caramel Sea Salt flavours due to the potential presence of metal fragments.
"This recall only affects these specific products with a best before date of June 2025 with certain lot codes. You can check your lot code in our 'lot code checker' tool on this page.
"A lot code is a unique identifier assigned to a specific batch or quantity of products manufactured under the same conditions, used for tracking and traceability. It is printed on the side of the packaging underneath the best before date, usually starting with the letter L.
"The rest of the Tony's Chocolonely Easter range, including all its small eggs and all other Tony's Chocolonely products are not affected by this issue.
"Do you have an egg with the impacted lot number(s)? Please don't eat the chocolate. Instead, we kindly ask you that you return the product to the store where you bought it for a refund."
After the recall of chocolate bars was announced on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Tony's Chocolonely expressed their regret: "We are extremely sorry to have to issue this recall, and for the inconvenience that this will cause people who purchased these products."
They added, "Whilst the probability of a product being affected is low, we always put the safety and satisfaction of our consumers first and that is why we have made the decision to recall these products. We apologise to consumers and our partners for the impact this will have."
