This Morning's Craig Doyle has recounted a rather dramatic experience as Storm Eowyn wreaks havoc, revealing that his balcony "exploded" amidst the tumultuous weather.
During Friday's (January 24) show on ITV, Craig broadcasted from Ireland's Wicklow National Park, describing the severe impact of the storm.
"It's pretty bad, actually. At 5 o'clock this morning, it hit so hard, I've never heard winds like it," he relayed to hosts Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond.
"About an hour ago there was a big explosion, and basically the wind came through and just ripped apart our balcony and all the glass smashed out of it," he recounted, prompting a shocked response from Alison: "Oh my god."
Craig further shared his disbelief: "I know, it's crazy right?" He described the extensive damage: "That's been there a long time, big wooden struts and it just ripped it all apart, glass flying everywhere, a huge smash. That's scary winds, to do damage like that is really scary."
With Ireland being no stranger to harsh weather conditions, Craig highlighted that the intensity of this storm has been extraordinary, even causing fears to surge. Alongside detailing the chaos, he mentioned joining a waiting list for gas, indicating the severity of the situation.
"It could take a week to fix all this stuff because of the amount of damage, so it does feel different. It feels a little scarier," said Craig, noting the critical circumstances.
Reflecting on the startling morning events, he admitted his anxiety, adding: "I was really shocked, actually, when the balcony kind of exploded with the wind this morning. This house is built on a mountain and we built it to withstand heavy winds, but we haven't experienced anything like this before. I'm a bit nervy being out here," reports the Mirror.
Dermot also revealed that his parents, who reside in Wexford, have begun charging their electronic devices, including their hearing aids, in anticipation of potential power outages over the coming hours.
Storm Eowyn made landfall on the British Isles this morning, prompting red weather alerts for Northern Ireland and central Scotland.
A staggering wind speed of 114mph was clocked earlier today in Ireland, with the tumultuous conditions predicted to cause widespread disruption across the nation.
Millions have been advised to remain indoors and refrain from travelling during the storm, leading to numerous school closures and train suspensions in specific regions.
