A man has been arrested in connection with “one of the largest” cannabis grow operations in Northern Ireland in recent years.
The 31-year-old was arrested in London on Friday on suspicion of offences linked to an investigation into the discovery of an “industrial-scale” cannabis factory in Belfast last year.
The PSNI said officers from its organised crime unit were assisted by the Metropolitan Police in the arrest.
Detective Inspector Kelly said: “The arrest is in relation to the discovery of an industrial scale cannabis factory located at the Limestone Road area of north Belfast on June 7, 2024.
“Following the large-scale policing operation, cannabis plants with an estimated street value of excess of £1.5 million were seized.”
Two other men are both currently on remand in relation to the police probe after arrests last year. They are a 32-year-old man who was arrested in County Down and a 25-year-old man arrested in London.
Mr Kelly added: “Our enquiries are continuing but this operation has all the hallmarks of a sophisticated crime gang operation.
“This is one of the largest cannabis grows uncovered in recent years, with 23 grow rooms located that were equipped to grow and cultivate cannabis.
“We are committed to removing drugs from the community and dealing with those involved in the supply of controlled drugs.
“I would ask if anyone has any information about suspected drug dealing in their area to call the non-emergency number 101. Alternatively, information can also be given anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
