The teen turned himself in on Friday, over a month after the crash occurred, the affidavit shows. Winter Garden police Capt. Scott Allen said the 17-year-old told deputies he was leaving 7-Eleven when he halted at a stop sign and pulled forward.
The teen said while he was looking left, the skateboarder came from the other way and he struck him, according to Allen. The police captain added that the suspect had the right of way.
Allen said the driver told them he left the scene because he was scared.
Officers said the driver faces a felony charge of failing to stop and remain at the scene of a crash causing severe bodily injury.
News 6 is not naming the suspect because of his age.
