Sunday Rest: A Five-Star Experience For A Spring Reset

1 month ago 2353

Treat yourself or someone you love to this luxurious wellness break …

Where: The Merrion Hotel is a legendary spot in Dublin. With its cosy sitting rooms and log fires, elegant suites and peaceful central courtyard, it’s a seriously luxurious five-star experience. For art lovers, the hotel’s walls display a veritable exhibition of the finest Irish artists, from Sean Scully to JB Yeats.

An offer you can’t refuse: The Merrion now offers an exceptional 24-hour wellness stay, the Sunday Night Reset experience, which has been carefully designed to ease stress, and leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Who’s it for? Anyone in need of a boost or a pamper. It’s a special idea if you’re looking to share a memorable evening with a loved one (a shining Mother’s Day gift, for example).

The lowdown: From €425 per person (based on double occupancy), this is a big treat … but you’ll find that it’s so much more than just an overnight stay in one of Dublin’s finest hotels.

During your stay, you can enjoy the spa facilities – gym, peaceful swimming pool, sauna and steam room – and also an hour-long treatment. I had a full-body Thai massage with Emma, an exceptional therapist. It’s closer to a physiotherapy treatment than a wafty stroke with oils, but I felt that every bit of tightness in my body was pinpointed and ironed out, with absolute precision and expertise.

If you’re holding any tension, or have aches, pains or fatigue, it’s an extraordinary treatment; close your eyes and you could be on a beach in Koh Pha Ngan.

I love finding therapists this good, and Emma is a specialist – she is well worth booking in with, even if you can’t commit to the overnight stay. If you want to add on further treatments, Biologique Recherche facials are available too, plus a range of Espa facials and massages.

The next morning: After a good night’s sleep (the hotel is incredibly quiet, considering it’s in the city centre), kick off the new week by joining the morning yoga class, which is included in the package. Yoga teacher Catherine’s calm tone and gentle stretches will help to ease you into Monday. Full breakfast is included, from a full Irish to French toast; the buffet spread is quite something. On summer days, the Garden Room’s glass doors are open, so you can have breakfast al fresco on the terrace.

Take home: You’ll leave with a month’s supply of Irish supplement Sisterly (male guests receive an Espa treat) to help to keep you refreshed, and make the benefits of your stay last longer.

This package is excellent value for money, especially when you consider that a full body massage costs from €150. It’s a rare opportunity to experience the very best in Irish hospitality and luxury for the perfect 24 hours. You’ll leave with a spring in your step, feeling well rested and well-fed. In a dream world, I’d book in every month.
