For the red alert, the Met Office said: "Very strong winds associated with Storm Éowyn causing very dangerous conditions with widespread disruption and significant impacts expected."

Currently, over 93,000 homes and businesses are without power and a number of roads across NI have been forced to close due to debris, fallen trees and powerlines.

Schools are shut, a number of supermarkets and businesses are closed, multiple flights cancelled, and Translink has suspended all bus and train services on Friday morning while the red status is in place.

The public has been advised not to travel during the red warning as there is a "threat to life" and that only essential journeys be made during the amber and yellow warnings.
